During the segment, Dr. Potter discussed the possibility of powderpost beetle infestations in the wooden storage structures ("rickhouses") that are associated with Kentucky bourbon production.   • A paper published in Insect Science in 2015 based on studies conducted by a visiting scientist, Dr. Gabriele Rondoni, in the Department of Entomology has been recognized as a winning paper of Insect Science Most Cited Paper Award of 2017.  Drs. Kacie Athey and John Obrycki are co-authors on this paper.

  • UK Entomologist Stephen Dobson received the “Global Impact Award” from the Office of Technology Commercialization. This award recognizes the potential impact of the UK-patented work from his laboratory and his company, “MosquitoMate, Inc.” in developing sterile male mosquitoes using Wolbachia.

  • University of Kentucky Entomology was well represented at the North Central Branch (NCB) of the Entomological Society of America Meeting that was held in Madison, Wisconsin from March 18 to 21, 2018. Our Linnaean team (Sarah Meierotto, Josiah Ritchey, Lauren Fann, and Ryan Kuesel), got better with each round and finished in 2nd place. They qualify for the ESA competition to be held in Vancouver later this year. A check for $2500 will help to defray their costs.
