Growth characteristics: grows in suspension when subcultured at 7-day interval; Morphology: The majority of the cells are spherical or ellipsoidal, with diameters of 9.9 to 26.2 µm; approx. 6 % of the cell population possess a single protoplasmic extension of 7.8 to 12.7 µ in length and 4 % are larger oblong binucleate cells with lengths of 26.7 to 46 µm and widths of 24.2 to 32.9 µm
