Morphology: During early passages, the HvE6 line showed heterogeneous morphologies between the attached and suspended cell types and separate strains were isolated from this by selecting for nonattachment, respectively, and were designated as IPLB-HvE6s; Growth characteristics: these cell line are maintained at low temperatures (17°C).

Able to replicate Helicoverpa zea single nucleopolyhedrovirus (HzSNPV), Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) , Anagrapha falcifera multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AfMNPV 1), Rachoplusia ou multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (RoMNPV) and Anticarsia gemmatalis multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AgMNPV); produces large number of occlusion bodies; no cytopathology (CPE) observed for Orgyia leucostigma multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (OlMNPV)
