Kayukawa, T., Tateishi, K., & Shinoda, T. (2013). Establishment of a versatile cell line for juvenile hormone signaling analysis in Tribolium castaneum. Scientific reports, 3, 1570.
Morphology: cells primarily remain in suspension with vesicles forming and cells occasionally adhere to the bottom of the culture flask; the size and shape of individual cells are uniform, measuring about 10 mm in diameter, while the shape of vesicles are variable, with sizes ranging from about 30 to 300 mm in length; Karyology: contain 20 chromosomes/cell, therefore are diploid; Unique properties: useful for the elucidation of JH signaling (the Kruppel homolog 1 gene (Kr-h1) is induced by subnanomolar levels of JHs and two JH response elements (kJHREs) have been identified).
